The Danish audio company Bang & Olufsen introduces a modular home speaker system, called Beosound Level. Thanks to the modular nature, the speaker should last longer compared to traditional home speakers. The set is for sale from 1499 euros.

At the heart of the Beosound Level speaker system is the streaming module. This module contains the digital signal processing chip and wireless antennas and will be used as standard in the future line-up of Bang & Olufsen home speakers.

The company states that the chips in the streaming module have enough computing power on board to handle future updates. If the module becomes obsolete in the future, Bang & Olufsen will allow customers to upgrade to a more recent model for a fee if they return their obsolete hub.

The average battery life of the Beosound Level is estimated by the company at 16 hours and drops to four hours when the volume knob is turned all the way up. Charging is done by attaching a magnetic pug to the side that resembles Apple’s recent MagSafe technology. The battery is replaceable, but not compatible with other models. The Danish company will offer replacement batteries for sale.

The Beosound Level has five drivers: two 4-inch woofers, one 2-inch full-range driver and two 0.8-inch tweeters. In addition, it has an IP54 rating which states that the system can withstand dust and splash water. The speaker supports Bluetooth, Apple Airplay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect and voice controls via Google Assistant and is for sale for 1499 euros.
