Bandai Namco is collaborating with stop motion studio Aardman on new projects

The Japanese game company Bandai Namco is collaborating with the British animation studio Aardman on several new projects. It concerns cross-media productions. Aardman is best known for Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run.

Details about the projects have not yet been announced. The companies do say they are working together on completely new IP. The projects are therefore not based on existing animations or games. The first project will cover ‘multiple media’ and work on this should start early next year. The companies want to ‘create stories for current and future platforms’ together.

Aardman sees interactive entertainment as a major growth market within the entertainment industry and argues that emerging technology is blurring the ‘line between watching and playing’. Through the collaboration with Bandai Namco, the British animation studio wants to strengthen its position as a studio that is active in multiple disciplines.

Bandai Namco and Aardman have previously collaborated on 11-11 Memories Retold. That is a game that revolves around the story and is set during the First World War. That title came out at the end of 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Aardman is also currently working on an AR experience for smartphones, in collaboration with British Fictioneers. That’s about Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up, a title that will be released on December 30th.
