Bandai Namco officially unveiled Tekken 8 during Sony’s State of Play presentation. The company has also released a trailer featuring battle footage rendered in the game’s engine. Tekken 8 is coming to the PS5, Xbox Series consoles, and Steam.

Katsuhiro Harada, the Chief Producer of the Tekken project at Bandai Namco, reports that Tekken 8 is in production. He hasn’t announced a release date yet and says the development phase is still ongoing. Harada does tell a few things about the trailer. According to him, these are images that have been rendered in real-time on the PlayStation 5 and that they are therefore not pre-made cinematic images.

Harada says that the footage in the trailer comes from a certain part of Tekken 8’s story mode, which is still being worked on. He emphasizes that the models of the two characters, the backgrounds and the graphical effects all correspond to how they will be found in the game. The images have a frame rate of 60 frames per second.

Furthermore, Harada emphasizes various effects in the background, such as ‘dynamic waves’, tornadoes, and an oil tanker breaking in two. He also emphasizes how much effort has been made to convey the storm with a lot of impact and that, for example, small details are also visible, such as raindrops running off a character’s body. Harada states that the purpose of this trailer is to show the quality of the game on PS5 and that this quality is an important differentiator from Tekken 7.
