Awesome Games Done Quick raises more than $2.6 million for charity
The multi-day speedrunning event Awesome Games Done Quick raised almost $2.7 million for charity this year. The amount goes to the Prevent Cancer Foundation. The event could be followed live and will again take place completely online in 2023.
A total of 39,872 donations were made during the AGDQ 2023 event, which took place between January 8 and 15. A total of 2,666,868.41 dollars was raised, which amounts to approximately 2.47 million euros. The highest donation this year was $100,000. The amount will be donated to the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
Several world records were broken during this year’s event. For example, the Any% speedrun record in Super Mario Galaxy 2 was set with a time of 2 hours, 54 minutes and 51.33 seconds. broken by Jhay. The previous world record was 4.4 seconds higher. New world records were also set in games such as Powerwash Simulator and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge.
AGDQ has taken place every year in January since 2010, followed by a summer edition later in the year. During the Games Done Quick events, various speedrunners play video games as quickly as possible for days. Last year’s event raised a record $3.4 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
The organization’s next event, Summer Games Done Quick 2023, will take place between May 28 and June 4. That event is expected to be held physically, and not exclusively online. During this summer edition last year, $3.01 million was raised for Doctors Without Borders.
