Among the new FritzBox routers that AVM will present at IFA later this week, there is also expected to be a model that supports 5G. According to the German tech site Caschys Blog, the device will probably receive the type number 6850 5G.

It had been known for some time that AVM was working on a new FritzBox router with support for both Wi-Fi and 5G, but technical specifications of the device have not yet been released. However, according to Caschys Blog, there is a good chance that the device, which may be called FritzBox 6850 5G, will already be presented later this week during the IFA trade fair in Berlin.

AVM states that a router with 5g can be a good alternative for people who do not have access to broadband internet in their home in the traditional way. “For example, you should think of a remote home, holiday home, boat or camping,” says Gerrit Brugman, Country Manager BeLux at the company.

Caschys Blog expects that the router will also receive fast dual-band WLAN technology with multi-user mimo in addition to 5g. It is not clear whether the ‘6850 5G’ will also support 802.11ax or Wi-Fi 6. Other new models are expected to do so. For example, AVM would also use the IFA fair for the introduction of the FritzBox 5530 and 5550 with Wi-Fi 6, although those names have not yet been confirmed.

In addition to new routers, AVM will also present a number of new smart home products at IFA this week. According to Winfuture.de, the Berlin company itself has confirmed the arrival of these devices via an IFA promotion page.
