Security company Avast acquires Piriform, the company behind the CCleaner program. It is unknown if anything will change for users of products from either company. CCleaner has 130 million users.

Avast cites the London office as the reason for the acquisition, as it expands its presence in the British capital. Avast already has two programs with Cleanup and AVG TuneUp that perform a similar task to CCleaner. Avast bought competitor AVG last year for 1.2 billion euros, with which it also got TuneUp.

It is unknown what Avast will pay for the acquisition of the CCleaner maker. Piriform claims to have 130 million users, 15 million of which are from its Android app. The Piriform employees will all transfer to Avast and will work in the company’s Consumer Business unit.
