‘Automatic brightness no longer works after screen repair new iPhones’

Apple’s iOS no longer allows the software to automatically adjust brightness after users have had the screen replaced. It doesn’t matter whether Apple supplied the screen itself or not.

This concerns replacement screens for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X with iOS 11.1 or higher, Engadget reports based on information from repairers. The problem doesn’t occur when people let Apple do the repair, but it does happen when they do it at other repair shops.

In addition, iOS seems to deactivate the light sensor, so that the automatic brightness no longer works. As a result, many people will think that the repair was not successful because the screen is not working optimally. Users can still manually adjust brightness in iOS settings.

Apple has often made third-party repairs more difficult. For example, it’s impossible to replace the Home button on the iPhone 5s or newer without replacing the entire motherboard; with any other Home button, Touch ID no longer works. In addition, Apple says that this step was necessary for security. However, this does not apply to screen repairs; the screens in question are from Apple.

According to estimates by repairers, this concerns tens of thousands of people who now have an iPhone without automatic brightness. Apple has not confirmed or denied the information; the company declined to respond.
