Audi owners can add functions to their car via the app for a fee

Audi makes Functions on Demand available. This allows car owners to purchase functions for their Audi for the duration of one, six or twelve months via an app. It concerns features such as digital radio, a parking assistant and adaptive cruise control.

Audi presents Functions on Demand as a way for car owners to add extras even after purchasing their car. That works with periodic payments; it is not possible to purchase features with a one-time payment.

Features are available in three categories: lighting technology, assistance systems and infotainment. The exact range of available functions differs per car and Audi says it will expand the range in the future. Each function can be ordered for a period of use of one month, six months or a full year. Audi states that users, for example, can activate the Matrix LED package in the dark winter months. At the end of the period, users will receive a reminder. Renewal only happens if the customer confirms this.

Functions on Demand works via the myAudi app or the myAudi web environment. Based on the chassis number of the car, users are shown the available functions. When users purchase a feature, it is activated on the vehicle via an over-the-air update. Digital purchase of features only works with new Audi models. These are the A4, A5 and e-tron from model year 2020 and the A6, A7, Q5, Q7 and Q8 from model year 2021.

Customers have 14 days of cancellation right after purchasing Functions on Demand. The purchases are tied to a car. Activated functions are therefore sold as part of the sale. In its announcement, Audi only mentions the prices of the high beam assistant and MMI navigation. Those are the cheapest and most expensive features.
