Atari wants to release new console through crowdfunding

Atari wants to raise money through crowdfunding for its new console. It is not yet known when a campaign will start and how much the company thinks it will need. The Ataribox should be able to play both classic and newer games.

Eurogamer discovered that a message to investors states that the Ataribox will be funded through crowdfunding. The message was sent at the end of last month, but was not previously reported in the media. Atari itself hasn’t released anything about a campaign yet; the brand released information about the console’s design in a press release on Monday.

Further information about the Ataribox is scarce. It appears to be an alternative to Nintendo’s mini versions of the NES and SNES, small consoles that can play old games via emulation. However, Atari also says it wants to offer new games, but it is not clear what kind of games this concerns.
