Atari reveals design of upcoming Ataribox console
Atari has shown the design of its upcoming Ataribox. There will be a version with a wooden panel on the front and a version in black with a red logo on the front. At the back are an HDMI connection, four USB connections and an SD card slot.
The renders of the new Atari console are in a newsletter. The design is based on the Atari 2600. According to Atari, the connections refer to ‘modern internal specifications’, but the company has not yet said which hardware will be used. The makers do say that they will not only deliver classic, but also modern games.
It is not clear which games will be playable on the Ataribox. Presumably these are classics that were originally developed for the Atari. With modern games, the company could be targeting games like Roller Coaster Tycoon. The ‘classic’ version of that game was released for Android and iOS late last year.
Further details on the specs, features, price and availability should come out over time. Atari says it wants to do this step by step while listening to feedback from the community. In June, Atari’s CEO confirmed that the company is working on a new console, after a teaser video had previously appeared online.
