Atari makes survival mmo of retro classic Asteroids
Atari has announced a new version of the retro game Asteroids. Where the game of the late 1970s excelled in simplicity, Asteroids: Outpost is a sandbox survival game in an open world.
In Asteroids: Outpost, the player is a deep space miner who must find, mine and protect valuable resources. In doing so, he must increase his mining abilities, including by improving his equipment and making friends with fellow miners. The game will come to PC ‘soon’, according to Atari, but when that will be is not known.
The resources on Earth have been consumed and humanity has started industries on the Moon and Mars, but is also expanding them to further areas in the solar system. The game takes place in the Kuiper Belt, where asteroids can be found that are rich in valuable resources. However, the player is constantly under fire from rival miners and smaller asteroids, which must be blasted away.
