Asus temporarily put images of Intel Z490 motherboards online
Asus has temporarily released images of two Z490 motherboards for Intel’s upcoming Comet Lake desktop processors. This concerns the Prime Z490-A and Prime Z490-P. List prices and release dates of the motherboards are not yet known.
The images in question were published on the product page of a Z390 motherboard, Twitter user reports momomo_us. The photos have since been removed from the website, although VideoCardz has since published them. The images show the Prime Z490-P and Z490-A. These motherboards both have the LGA 1200 socket, support PCI-e 3.0 and each have two EPS connections for power supply to the CPU.

The Prime Z490-A is most likely positioned in a higher price segment than the Z490-P. The motherboard has an integrated I/O panel and relatively larger heatsinks. The Z490-A also has three PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots and three x1 connectors. The motherboard also seems to have a more elaborate VRM design than the Z490-P, and can accommodate at least two M2 SSDs. The Prime Z490-A has eight USB ports, a DisplayPort and HDMI connector, an RJ-45 Ethernet connection and six connections for audio.
The Z490-P, in turn, has two PCI-e 3.0 x16 slots and four x1 connectors. The motherboard has smaller heatsinks and no integrated I/O panel. The Z490-P does have three m2 connectors. Furthermore, the Z490-P has a less extensive VRM design. The motherboard has two USB 2.0 connections, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports with speeds of 5 Gbit/s and two USB 3.2 Gen 2 connectors. The further connections seem largely the same as the Z490-A. It is striking that images of the Prime Z490-P mention the H470 chipset. This seems to be a typo, by the way, as ‘Z490’ is marked on the motherboard itself.
According to previous rumors, Intel will announce its upcoming Comet Lake CPUs on April 30. Reviews of the CPUs and the first Z490 motherboards should be out about two weeks later. Asus may release its Prime Z490 motherboards around this time, although this information was not available on the tech manufacturer’s website. The suggested retail prices are not yet known.
