Asus stops supplying recovery DVDs with netbooks
Asus will no longer ship recovery DVDs with its Eee PC netbooks and notebooks. Instead, the manufacturer points out the possibility to access the recovery partition on the hard drive via the F9 key at boot time.
According to a posting on the company’s support page chose Asus to end recovery DVD delivery for environmental reasons. With the measure, however, Asus also saves money. For netbook users, the delivery of the recovery DVD was already not very useful due to the fact that almost all netbooks come without a DVD player.
Instead of using the DVD in case of a crash, you can use the recovery partition on the hard drive of the netbook or notebook. Asus has put instructions for this on its website. The partition can be accessed by pressing the F9 key during boot and then pressing the ‘Recover’ option for the system recovery. For users with a crashed laptop who have erased their recovery partition for some reason, Asus offers no solution. By the way, it was already possible to perform a system restore via a USB stick.
