Asus shows scores of possible Pascal GPU in G-series gaming laptop
Asus shows the scores of an unknown mobile Nvidia GPU on its Republic of Gamers website. The high scores suggest that this is a GPU of the new Pascal generation, although the manufacturer does not disclose anything about it yet.
On the relevant page, Asus talks about “a glimpse into the future of gaming laptops” and announces it has made a “great leap” in its development. Accompanying the message, the company shows a screenshot of 3DMark 11 scores from a card, which is only labeled as ‘GXXX’. The unknown card scores 20,811 points, making it faster than a GTX Titan X desktop model or an R9 295X2. The graph is slightly distorted by the starting point of the x-axis.
The 3DMark score that Asus shows is not much lower than the scores that the Nvidia GTX 1080 achieves. The desktop GPU scores about 25,000 points in the same test. It is possible that Nvidia will come with a full 1080 GPU for large gaming laptops; the video card manufacturer also released an MXM with full GTX 980 GPU last year. The mobile version could then be clocked slightly lower to save energy.
There is no information to indicate that it is an external GPU. The only thing that Asus lets go of is the fact that the laptop is an overclockable model and that the scores achieved were achieved without overclocking. The company is likely to announce more information at the upcoming Computex trade show, which kicks off at the end of this month.
