ASUS shows ROG Strix laptops with Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU and 300Hz screen – update

ASUS has announced three ROG Strix laptops that feature the recently announced AMD gaming laptop-focused Ryzen 9 5900HX processors. The laptops that ASUS releases in the Benelux will have a screen with a refresh rate of 300Hz.

The ROG Strix SCAR 17 also comes out elsewhere with a 360Hz screen and has a specified response time of 3ms, but in the Benelux only the variant with a 300Hz screen will be available. It can represent 100 percent of the sRGB color space. The response time is also 3ms according to ASUS, although it is not clear whether this concerns the gray-to-gray response time.

The model that will be released in the Benelux will get an Nvidia Geforce RTX 3080 as GPU, an IPS screen with a diagonal of 17.3 “and a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and 32GB DDR4 memory. The keyboard of the ROG Strix SCAR 17 is equipped with optical-mechanical switches, which, according to ASUS, would improve response time.

Furthermore, ASUS comes in the Benelux with a version of the ROG Strix G17 that has the same screen and processor as the ROG Strix SCAR 17. The differences can be found in less RAM in the form of 16GB DDR4 and a less powerful video card in the form of the GeForce RTX 3070. ASUS also comes with the ROG Strix G15, which has a smaller 15.6″ screen. equals the ROG Strix G17.

The laptops are equipped with Ryzen 9 5900HX processors. These Zen 3 CPUs have 8 cores and 16 threads, have a clock speed of 3GHz, a maximum boost of 4.8GHz and a TDP of 45W. These processors are made on a 7nm process.

All new ROG Strix laptops come with a 90Wh battery and support 100W fast charging via USB-C. The suggested retail price of the ROG Strix SCAR 17 is 2999 euros, the ROG Strix G17 should cost 1999 euros and the suggested retail price of the smaller ROG Strix G15 is 1949 euros.

Update, 5:25 PM: In an earlier version of the message it was stated that there was 8GB and 16GB ram with the different models. That should be 16 and 32GB of ram, or two DDR4-3200 modules of 8GB each and with the ROG Strix SCAR 17 it is two DDR-3200 modules of 16GB each. The table and the text have been adapted accordingly.
