Asus ROG Phone 3 gets a 6000mAh battery and 144Hz OLED screen

Asus has announced the ROG Phone 3, a gaming smartphone with a Snapdragon 865 Plus-soc and a 6.59 “OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. There will also be a Strix Edition of the device, with an older soc and less memory.

The screen of the ROG Phone 3 has a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio and a touch sampling rate of 270Hz. According to Asus, this makes for one touch latency of 25ms. The ROG Phone II, with a 120Hz display and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz, had a touch latency of 49ms. The response speed would be 1ms and the phone would have a peak brightness of 1000cd / m² can display. The phone can handle hdr10 + and should be able to display 113.3 percent of the dci-p3 color spectrum. The resolution of the screen is 2340×1080 pixels.

As mentioned at the announcement of the Snapdragon 865 Plus-soc, the ROG Phone 3 gets this new soc. The soc comes in the ROG Phone 3 with a 5g modem. The phone also gets a maximum of 16GB lpddr5 memory and a maximum of 512GB ufs 3.1 storage. The gaming smartphone measures 171x78x9.85mm and weighs 240 grams.

To keep the soc cool, the ROG Phone 3 has a heatsink six times larger than the previous model, according to Asus. Also, the vapor chamber redesigned. For extra cooling, Asus introduces the AeroActive Cooler 3, a fan that clips onto the back of the phone. This cooler comes with the phone, consumers can also purchase accessories such as a dock and a gamepad. The device has two AirTrigger 3 buttons on one side, which work by means of ultrasound.

On the back, the ROG Phone 3 has a camera island with three sensors. The main camera has a Sony IMX686-64 megapixel sensor with an aperture of f / 1.8. In addition, there is a wide-angle camera with a 13-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel macro camera. Up front is a 24-megapixel camera. The phone can record at up to 8k and 30fps, or up to 480fps at 720p. The phone has two stereo speakers at the front, a fingerprint sensor in the screen and support for Quick Charge 4.0. The software is Android 10 with a ROG UI shell.

The Strix Edition shares many specifications with the regular ROG Phone 3. The Strix variant, however, gets the slower Snapdragon 865-soc and is only available with 8GB memory and 256GB storage. On the other hand, the phone is 200 euros cheaper than the cheapest variant of the regular ROG Phone 3. The Asus ROG Phone 3 will be for sale at the end of July, it is not known whether the phone will also come to the Benelux.
