Asus releases TUF Gaming laptops with Ryzen CPUs and Radeon GPUs
Asus has announced the FX505DY and the FX705DY. These are two new laptops in the TUF Gaming series, which Asus equips with AMD Ryzen processors and Radeon RX 560X graphics cards. The screens have narrow bezels and support for FreeSync.
The Asus TUF Gaming FX505DY has a 15.6″ screen and the FX705DY a 17.3″ screen. In both cases it is an IPS panel with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and both screens support FreeSync. However, on the FX705DY, the variable refresh rate ranges from 40 to 60Hz, while the FX505DY’s display goes up to 120Hz. According to Asus, these are NanoEdge screens, as the company calls its screens with narrow bezels.
The processor for the TUF Gaming models is the Ryzen 5 3550H, a 12nm quad-core APU that AMD announced on Sunday and which has a TDP of 35W. In many computer tasks, the Vega GPU of the apu can do the job. Partly because of this, the battery life of the FX705DY with 64Wh battery according to Asus is seven hours and of the FX505DY with 48Wh battery six hours when playing 1080p video.
In addition to the GPU integrated with the apu, there is the Radeon RX 560X, a video card based on the Polaris 11 GPU with 4GB gddr5. Asus further equips the gaming laptops in different configurations in terms of storage and RAM, with a maximum of 32GB of RAM and 512GB of PCI-e SSD storage. Asus further advertises the presence of MIL-STD-810G certification, which shows that the laptops can pass certain tests for drops, moisture and dust conditions.
There will be two variants of the TUF Gaming laptops: Red Matter versions with only red keyboard backlighting and Gold Steel models with RGB keyboard lighting. They also have support for WiFi-ac and HDMI 2.0 and a duo USB 3.1 Gen1 ports are present. Asus does not mention prices and availability dates yet.
