ASUS is going to provide more laptops with OLED screens. The manufacturer introduces ProArt StudioBook and VivoBook Pro models with the screen technology. ASUS also gives customers a choice of Intel or AMD configurations.

ASUS uses OLED screens from 13.3″ to 16″, both with 16:9 and 16:10 ratios and with various resolutions from full HD up to 4k. The refresh rate goes up to 90Hz on some models. Presumably ASUS uses panels from Samsung Display; that screen manufacturer announced at the beginning of this year that it would produce more OLED panels for laptops . The new ASUS laptops with OLED monitors are mainly aimed at creators , or creatives who work with images.

ASUS also pays attention to the risk of burn-in OLED screens. By default, the laptops come with a dark mode set and the screen dims after five minutes. In addition, ASUS uses pixel shift and pixel refresh techniques. The new laptops have improved third-generation OLED panels, which are said to be more resistant to burn-in than predecessors, according to ASUS.

ASUS ProArt StudioBook 16 OLED

The new top model in the ProArt series is the StudioBook 16 OLED , with a choice of up to an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX or Intel Core i9-11900H. These can be combined with a maximum of an RTX 3070 or RTX 3060 GPU, respectively. There will also be a Pro version of the StudioBook 16. It is equipped with Nvidia RTX A GPUs for workstations and in the case of the Intel configuration a Xeon processor.

The ProArt StudioBook 16 OLED contains a 16″ OLED screen with a 16:10 ratio and a resolution of 3840×2400 pixels. The peak brightness is 550cd/m² and the maximum brightness that can be achieved continuously is 400cd/m². ASUS provides the laptop of an HDMI 2.1 connection and an SD Express card reader, which can handle speeds of up to 985MB/s with accompanying memory cards. The laptop has two Sodimm slots and two M.2 slots for expanding the RAM and SSD storage.

The thin laptop has a cooling system with six heat pipes. The SSD and the memory have their own thermal pads . In a regular mode, the Studiobook 16 has a cooling capacity of 110W: 30W for the CPU and 80W for the GPU. In a Performance mode, that is 140W, with 50W for the CPU and 90W for the GPU.

Vivobook Pro

ASUS also introduces four Vivobook Pro laptops with OLED screens. Those come with unnamed AMD Ryzen 5000H processors, or 11th-generation Intel Core H variants. The VivoBooks get a maximum of 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage. The video card is up to a GeForce RTX 3050 Ti.

The VivoBook Pro 16X uses the same 4K OLED panel as the StudioBook 16 models. The smaller Pro 14X and Pro 14 contain a 14″ panel with a resolution of 2880×1800 pixels and a maximum brightness of 600cd/m². There will also be a VivoBook Pro 15, with an unspecified 15.6″ OLED panel. The VivoBook Pro models get a 96Wh or 63Wh battery.

More ZenBooks with OLED screen

Furthermore, ASUS will provide more ZenBook models with OLED screens. There will be a ZenBook 14X OLED and a 14 Flip OLED. Also with these models there is a choice of AMD or Intel processors. ASUS already had several laptops with OLED screens in its range , such as the ZenBook Pro Duo 15 and ZenBook 15. The cheapest OLED laptop so far is the ZenBook 13 OLED, which is currently in the Pricewatch for 749 euros.

Choice of AMD or Intel

With the new line-up, it is striking that ASUS makes variants with AMD and Intel processors. The manufacturer emphasizes that this is not obvious and involves a lot of work, because the motherboards for both options are completely different. ASUS has to adapt the interior of the laptops accordingly and therefore make more different configurations. The manufacturer says it does that to give customers a choice.

The recommended prices for the new laptops have not yet been announced.
