ASUS provides gaming phone ROG Phone 5s with upgraded soc

ASUS has presented the Rog Phone 5s and 5s Pro. These are gaming phones that have a Snapdragon 888 Plus soc, versus the regular 888 in the ROG Phone 5 phones. In addition, the delay with touch input has been reduced a little further.

The ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro register touch input 360 times per second, compared to 300 times on the ROG Phone 5. As a result, the screen has to respond a bit faster. That display is otherwise the same, namely a 6.78 “OLED screen with a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz and a resolution of 2448×1080 pixels. The design of the phone has also remained the same.

The soc goes from a Snapdragon 888 to an 888 Plus. It is slightly faster in some areas. The Cortex X1 core can go up to 2.84GHz in the 888 and up to 3GHz in the Plus version. The part of the soc that is responsible for machine learning tasks also has slightly more computing power in the Plus variant.

ASUS only releases a regular and Pro variant, but there will be no successor to the Ultimate. However, the Pro now goes up to 18GB of memory and 512GB of storage, something that is reserved for the Ultimate version with the ROG Phone 5.

ASUS presented the ROG Phone 5 half a year ago. Just like the current variants, the new versions have a 6000mAh battery that can be charged wired with 65W. It is still unknown when the ROG Phone 5s and 5s Pro will be released and what the various configurations will cost. The new variants will replace the current ROG Phone 5 when stores run out of stock.
