Asus introduces Zenbook with ‘ErgoLift hinge’ and new Vivobooks
Asus has announced a Zenbook laptop with a striking hinge that tilts the keyboard upwards. The new Vivobook S laptop uses the same hinge. Asus also announced a convertible with Kaby Lake R processor in the Vivobook Flip series.
The Zenbook S, or UX391, is a new 13.3″ laptop in the high-end Zenbook series. The laptop is characterized by the ‘ErgoLift hinge’, which hinges higher in the screen than usual. The base of the laptop As a result, when unfolded, it tilts upwards at an angle of 5.5 degrees.According to Asus, that makes typing more comfortable and also improves the functioning of the cooling and the quality of the sound.
The Zenbook S is 12.9 millimeters thick and weighs one kilogram. According to Asus, the format is approximately comparable to that of an A4 piece of paper. It is not yet known which exact configuration Asus will deliver in the Benelux, but the manufacturer has already announced the options for the Zenbook S. The processor will be a Core i5-8250U, or i7-8550U, along with 8 or 16GB lpddr3 at a speed of 2133MT/s. SSDs come in capacities of 256 or 512GB and 1TB.
The screen can be delivered with 4k resolution and touchscreen, or full HD resolution without touchscreen. At the latter resolution, there is also the option for a matte screen finish. The screens all support the full Adobe RGB color space. The battery has a capacity of 50Wh, which, according to Asus, is good for a battery life of 13.5 hours. The laptop supports fast charging, which means that the battery can be charged up to 60% in 49 minutes.
Asus also presented new laptops in the cheaper Vivobook series. The Vivobook S530, with a 15.6-inch screen and the S430 with a 14-inch screen, are equipped with the aforementioned hinge, just like the Zenbook S. That tilts the laptop slightly less than with the Zenbook; the angle is 3.5 degrees according to Asus.
The S430 and S530 are equipped with two USB 2.0 connections, a regular USB 3.0 connection and a USB-c connection. In addition, there is also a micro-SD reader and an HDMI connection. The Vivobooks also support fast charging, with which the battery is charged to 60 percent in 49 minutes. Asus does not provide an estimate of the battery life.
Finally, Asus presented the Vivobook Flip TP412, which appears to be the successor to the TP410. The new Vivobook Flip has a slightly modified appearance and can be supplied with larger SSDs. The TP412 is 17.6 millimeters thick and weighs one and a half kilograms. As with the Zenbook S, it is not yet clear with the Vivobook S and Vivobook Flip when Asus will deliver which configurations in the Benelux, but it is in any case a processor from the Kaby Lake Refresh series.
