Asus introduced new mesh routers at CES called HiveSpot and HiveDot. The devices can be used to set up a comprehensive WiFi network with a minimum of three and a maximum of five copies.

The devices can take on different roles, that of a router or that of a kind of range extender, with which the home network can be provided with a greater range. In addition, it is possible to connect one of the devices directly to an existing router. The HiveSpot is the more powerful model. It is a triband ac2134 router that has a second 5GHz band with which communication between the different nodes runs up to a speed of 867Mbit/s.

The other model, the HiveDot, is an ac1300 dualband router that also has support for 2.4 and 5GHz. The routers can be installed and set up via an app, in which access rights and parental controls can also be set. In addition, the routers come standard with Trend Micro security software.

The mesh routers should be available in the second quarter of this year. The HiveSpot has a price of four hundred dollars for three copies, which amounts to about 460 euros including VAT. The HiveDot costs three hundred dollars for three copies, which converted and including VAT is about 340 euros. It is not yet clear what the price of a separate copy is.
