Asus has introduced the ProArt Studio PA32UCX. This 32″ monitor, which is mainly intended for designers, has a 4k resolution and has small LEDs, which means that there are 1000 individual dimmable zones. The monitor supports HDR and achieves a very high peak brightness.

Asus reports that with the ProArt PA32UCX it is building on the fald technology used in some high-end monitors. The use of a mini LED backlight means that the lighting behind the LCD panel consists of many small LEDs. The LEDs are grouped into zones, where each zone corresponds to a part of the screen and can be dimmed individually. The manufacturer says that compared to fald, the PA32UCX uses smaller LEDs that are closer together, improving the ‘graininess’ of the brightness and allowing the content on the screen to be illuminated with greater precision with minimal halo effect.

The ProArt PA32UCX achieves a relatively very high peak brightness of 1200cd/m². High-end game monitors such as the Acer Predator X27 and the Asus PG27UQ do not go beyond 1000cd/m² and have LEDs that can be dimmed in 384 zones. The PA32UCX with its 1000 dimmable zones goes well beyond that, even though the PA32UCX is a 32″ monitor and the two game monitors mentioned have a screen diagonal of 27″.

Due to the peak brightness of 1200cd/m², the PA32UCX ranks among a select group of monitors that achieve 1000cd/m². Asus reports that its new monitor has received the DisplayHDR 1000 certification from VESA. Only the aforementioned two game monitors and a 43-inch screen from Philips have had this highest HDR certification for some time. With this certification program, VESA has been ranking monitors based on their HDR capabilities since December.

Asus says that the PA32UCX is intended to reproduce content very accurately, including HDR images. To this end, the screen not only supports the usual HDR10, but also hybrid log gamma. With this Hlg standard, Asus responds to, for example, television broadcasts, where this HDR standard is gradually being applied a little more. For accurate color reproduction, the monitor can display 97 percent of the dci-p3 color space and 89 percent of the rec.2020 color space.

It is not clear which panel type the ProArt PA32UCX has, but AUO already demonstrated 27″ and 32″ panels with mini LED backlight last year, which were presumably ahva panels. They are similar to ips.

The ProArt PA32UCX has two USB-C connections with Thunderbolt 3. Daisy chaining is also supported, so that various peripherals can be connected to the PC via these connections in a kind of chain. There are also connections for HDMI 2.0 and displayport.

The screen will be presented at the CES fair and will be released in the spring of this year. A price for the Asus ProArt PA32UCX has not yet been announced.
