Asus has added a new model to its Eee Box line. Not only has the EB1501 net top been given a new look, the device also features Nvidia’s Ion chipset, a slimline DVD burner and a dual-core Atom processor.

The Asus Eee Box EB1501 is equipped with a dual-core Atom 330 processor from Intel. The CPU is assisted by a maximum of 4GB DDR2 memory, a 2.5″ 250GB hard disk and Nvidia’s Ion chipset. The Ion GPU takes care of the graphical calculations and is able to decode full HD material without the processor being heavy. In addition, the EB1501 has an HDMI output, so that the nettop can serve as an HTPC.

Asus has also placed a slimline DVD burner in the new 1.2 kg housing. The protruding antenna at the rear for contacting neighboring 802.11n Wi-Fi networks has remained. Furthermore, Asus has equipped its nettop with, among other things, six USB ports, a VGA output, an eSATA port, a gigabit Ethernet connection and a card reader. Optionally, a vesa mounting kit can be purchased, so that the compact box can be hung behind an LCD TV. Asus will ship the EB1501 with Windows 7 Home Premium. The model with 2GB RAM is already available and has a street price of about 400 euros.
