Asus Announces XG Station Pro Enclosure for Graphics Cards
Asus has announced the XG Station Pro, an external video card enclosure that connects to a system via Thunderbolt 3. The housing was designed in collaboration with In Win and is more compact than the previous XG Station.
Asus announced the XG Station in 2007, followed by the RoG XG Station 2 in 2016. The company is now releasing the XG Station Pro, an aluminum housing with a sleeker design, courtesy of In Win. The transparent window and red plasma tube of the RoG XG Station 2 have disappeared. Instead, there’s a perforated side panel with two 120mm fans behind it. The side and top panels are removable to accommodate the graphics card.
The housing can accommodate full-size 2.5-slot video cards, including the Nvidia GeForce GTX 10-series and the AMD Radeon RX Vega line. The dimensions are 11x39cm, making the XG Station a lot more compact than its predecessor, among other things by choosing an external instead of an internal power supply. It is a 330W power supply and cards can be connected to two eight-pin PCI-e connectors.
In addition to the Thunderbolt 3 connection, for which Asus provides a cable with a length of 1.5 meters, the housing is equipped with USB 3.1 type-c Gen 2. There is also support for RGB lighting with control via Aura Sync. In the US, the XG Station Pro will be available this month for 329 dollars, converted and with VAT 329 euros. Whether the housing will also come out for that price is not known.
