Asus announces two ROG Strix motherboards with Intel B250 chipset
Asus announces two motherboards with Intel B250 chipset. The ROG Strix B250H Gaming is an atx model and the B250G variant is a compact matx version. Both motherboards feature two M2 slots and support Intel Optane SSDs.
Four ddr4 strips can be stuck on both boards, for a total of up to 64GB of RAM. The atx model has two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots, one of which runs at x16 speed and the other at x4 speed. The B250 chipset does not support sli, so combining two Nvidia cards is not possible. However, two AMD GPUs with crossfire can be used. The matx motherboard has one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot.
The network connector is a gigabit copy from Intel. Asus equips the ROG Strix motherboards with its SupremeFX S1220A codec, which according to the manufacturer offers high audio quality. The ‘SafeSlot’ PCIe slots are reinforced with metal and extra soldering points, according to Asus.
The boards have an lga1151 socket for Intel processors of the Kaby Lake generation. Because the motherboards use the Intel B250 chipset, overclocking is not an option. Asus expects the B250 boards to be in stores at the end of April. The B250H variant has a suggested retail price of 129 euros, the smaller B250G model costs 99 euros.
Update: The B250 chipset does not support sli, but does support crossfire. The text has been adapted accordingly.
