ASUS announced two OLED monitors intended for gamers at the gaming fair Gamescom in Cologne. The 32″ version is a classic 16:9 screen based on a QD OLED panel, the 34″ variant is an ultrawide with a Woled screen.

ASUS doesn’t provide many specs, but it is clear that the screens have different properties compared to OLED monitors that you can already buy. For example, the 34″ variant ROG Swift OLED PG34WCDM is the first Woled ultrawide in this format, with 3440×1440 pixels and a 21:9 ratio, just like the existing QD ultrawides. With 800R, the curve of the ASUS screen is significantly sharper than those monitors.

The new 32-inch screen, the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM, is one of the first announced OLED gaming monitors with 4k resolution. In this case it is a second-generation QD OLED screen, with a slightly more square shape of the pixels than with first-generation panels, just like the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9. This should help reduce the color fringing visible on QD OLED screens. Unlike previous QD OLED monitors, this screen is flat.

Both screens support a refresh rate of 240Hz. Previous 34″ QD OLED monitors went up to a maximum of 175Hz, while 32″ 4K OLED monitors that appeared so far only had a 60Hz refresh rate. ASUS gives both monitors a heatsink to reduce the risk of burn-in. With the PG32UCDM, ASUS specifically talks about a layer of graphene behind the panel plus a heatsink on the motherboard. Both screens are cooled without a fan. The PG34WCDM could achieve a peak brightness of 1300cd/m², in HDR mode and on a white box that occupies 3 percent of the display. That is slightly higher than the peak of 1000cd/m² of most other OLED monitors, including the PG32UCDM.

ASUS has integrated USB-C with Power Delivery and a KVM function on both screens. The PG32UCDM delivers up to 90W to a connected device, but remarkably, HDR and the USB hub are switched off if you use that. The two monitors also have HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 inputs. The manufacturer thinks it can release both products before the end of March next year. The prices are not yet known.
