ASUS announces ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate
ASUS has announced the ROG Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate. The phones hardly differ from their predecessors, but have a new soc, new storage, a brighter screen and a new optional cooler.
Both ROG Phone 7s have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 instead of a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from last year’s ROG Phone 6D Ultimate and 6 Pro. The storage goes from UFS 3.1 to UFS 4.0, but the capacity remains the same at 512GB. The working memory is Lpddr5x and has a capacity of 16GB.
The size is about the same, although the new phones are a fraction lighter at 239 grams. The screen is also the same: a 6.78″ OLED screen with a 165Hz refresh rate and 2448×1080 pixels of resolution. The claimed brightness is slightly higher at 1500 candelas per square meter than with the 6D. The cameras are also the same on paper.
The Phone 7 and 7 Ultimate both have a 6000mAh battery with the option to charge at 65W via one of the two USB-C ports. The phones also have a 3.5mm jack. The battery is split between the top and bottom of the phone with the pcb in between. The Ultimate has an optional cooler that also has a built-in subwoofer for extra bass when playing audio. It blows air in through the AeroActive Portal, a valve on the side that can be opened.
ASUS will release the Ultimate version in two weeks in the Benelux for 1399 euros. The Phone 7 costs 999 euros for the 12GB variant and 1199 euros for the version with 16GB memory. It will be released within a month, depending on the variant.
