Asus announces gaming laptop with GTX 960M

Asus has announced a new 15.6″ gaming laptop. The design of the RoG Strix GL553VW is based on that of the GL502, but has narrower screen bezels. The laptop has a 1080p display and a GTX 960M GPU, and can be equipped with a pcie x4 ssd.

The new laptop will come in different versions. The matte 15.6″ screen has a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and will be available as a tn or ips variant. You can also choose between an Intel Core i5-6300HQ and an i7-6700HQ processor. comes with up to 32GB of ddr4 ram, and for storage there is a choice of an ssd, which is available in both a sata and a pcie variant, and a 2.5″ hdd. It is striking that a GTX 960M GPU has been chosen. In August, the newer 10-series GPUs from Nvidia were released.

Wireless connections are made over the dual-band 802.11b/g/n/ac WiFi chip, which also supports Bluetooth 4.0. The laptop also has an Ethernet port, a USB 3.1 type-c port, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port, HDMI connection, 3.5 mm audio connection and 2-in-1 card reader.

The housing is based on that of the GL502, but has been made 7mm narrower and 11mm shorter, so that the screen bezels are narrower. However, it has also become 6.5mm thicker. The keyboard features red LED lighting, colored wasd keys, scissor switches and a numeric section.

Asus does not mention prices or delivery dates, but there is already a RoG Strix GL553VW in the Pricewatch for 1199 euros. This version is expected in October and has the Core i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, a 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD and IPS screen.
