Asus announces 802.11ax routers including triband model for gamers
Asus has announced three new routers as part of the Computex fair, all of which support the 802.11ax standard. Among the models is a ROG Rapture triband copy that should be suitable for busy networks.
The router aimed at gamers is called ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 in full and thanks to its triband configuration, it has two 5GHz bands at its disposal in addition to the usual 2.4GHz band. The router should be able to achieve speeds of approximately 4800Mbit/s and 1148Mbit/s over the different bands respectively, claims Asus. According to the manufacturer, the additional 5GHz band could, for example, be used to set up a separate network for gaming. The router is also equipped with an Ethernet port that should be able to offer speeds of up to 2.5 Gbit/s.
In addition to the ROG model, Asus also introduces a dual-band copy that, in its own words, often has the same hardware on board and should offer the same speeds on 2.4 and 5 GHz. Instead of the eight antennas of the ROG model, this variant, called RT-AX88U, makes do with four. The router also has a total of eight gigabit Ethernet ports, in addition to two USB 3.1 Gen1 ports.
Finally, Asus introduces another mesh router under the name AX6100. It comes in quantities of two. Like the ROG router, it is a triband copy. According to Asus, it is possible to add additional nodes to the network to increase coverage, which is the idea behind a mesh network. All announced routers support AIMesh, which Asus introduced earlier this year.
No price has yet been announced for the routers, which should be released in the third quarter of this year.
