Aston Martin introduces its first electric car
The exclusive British car brand Aston Martin has presented its first electric car. Announced nearly four years ago, the Rapide E made its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show on Tuesday. Aston Martin will only produce 155 units of the car.
The design of the new Rapide E is based on the Aston Martin Rapide Sedan with an internal combustion engine. The car has two electric motors that drive the rear axle and together generate 450kW, good for more than 610hp. The car reaches 96 km/h in just under 4 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.
The car has a 65 kWh battery, with which the Rapide E, according to the car manufacturer, has a range of ‘more than 320 km’, based on the wltp standard. Charging with 50kW and a voltage of 400V gives a range of 298km per hour that is charged, according to the manufacturer. In addition, the battery is suitable for a fast charging function with 800V and a power of 100kW or more; this generates a range of 499 km per hour. With the internal charger, the battery should be charged in three hours.
The instrument panel of the Rapide E features a 10” screen behind the steering wheel with a second 8” screen on top of the dashboard. The on-board entertainment system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The manufacturer has not yet released price information about the car.
