Aston Martin develops rear-view mirror with three camera feeds
Aston Martin is working on a rearview vision system that can display images from three cameras attached to a vehicle at the same time. Drivers must also be able to keep an eye on the sides of a car.
Aston Martin speaks of a hybrid camera monitoring system, which it is working on together with the maker of dimmable rear-view mirrors Gentex. The system can serve as a regular interior mirror, but also as an LCD panel. In that case, it can receive images from the roof-mounted camera and from either camera embedded in a car’s side mirrors.
The driver can choose from different display modes based on the three camera feeds. If the users change the position of the side mirrors, the system automatically adjusts the view to optimize the field-of-view. Aston Martin and Gentex will demonstrate the system at CES next week. They have integrated it into a DBS Superleggera for this purpose. It is not known whether and if so when the company will start using the technology in production models.
