Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is now the second most profitable game of all time for publisher Ubisoft. That happened in less than twelve months; the game came out in November 2020. The company attributes this mainly to in-game purchases and DLC.

In the first half of Ubisoft’s fiscal year 2021, which runs from April 2021 to the end of March 2022, turnover of 718.2 million euros was recorded, 4.8 percent less than a year earlier. Almost half of that, 348.6 million, comes from player recurring investment. This includes revenue from microtransactions and DLC. Ubisoft says so in a statement to the financial results.

These recurring player releases are also the reason Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is already the company’s second-highest-grossing game within a year, according to Ubisoft. How much profit the game has made, and which game is in first place, is not mentioned.

Far Cry 6 is also doing well, according to Ubisoft. The company says the first sales figures “match” those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey during the same period. Ubisoft also reports that the game time per player is 25 percent higher than was the case with Far Cry 5.

Furthermore, Ubisoft reports in its report which platforms performed best in terms of game sales. This shows that the PlayStation consoles in particular have caught up; in the second quarter of the current fiscal year, 37 percent of game revenues came from Sony’s platforms, which is ten percent more than in the second quarter of fiscal 2020.

The PC has a share of 20 percent in game sales; that is twelve percent less than a year earlier. Xbox consoles accounted for 19 percent this quarter, compared to 16 percent in 2020. Mobile platforms accounted for ten percent, down three percent, and Nintendo Switch had a seven percent share, up one percent from the second quarter of last year.
