ASRock and MSI show Radeon RX 5700 graphics cards with custom coolers
ASRock and MSI have shown AMD Radeon RX 5700 and 5700XT graphics cards with proprietary coolers. ASRock offers both cards in a Challenger version with two fans and a backplate. MSI shows its Mech versions, but will come with more models later.
ASRock announces the Challenger version of the RX 5700 and 5700XT and has put product pages online. The cards have a cooler with two axial 100mm fans and the heatsink is equipped with copper heatpipes that have a thickness of up to 8mm. The RX 5700XT model also gets an aluminum backplate, which is missing from the RX 5700.
The Challenger RX 5700XT model’s base clock is 1650MHz, which is 45MHz higher than AMD’s reference model. The maximum boost clock is unchanged at 1905MHz, but the game clock is somewhat higher at 1795MHz. In the reference model this is 1755MHz. The game clock is the speed that the card should in practice maintain during long gaming sessions.
The RX 5700 from ASRock is also clocked a bit higher. This model has a game clock of 1675MHz, an increase of 50MHz over the reference design. When the ASRock Challenger variants of the RX 5700 graphics cards will be released and what they will cost has not yet been announced.
MSI has revealed more about its proprietary RX 5700 cards in a live stream. Slides from a presentation have already appeared online and the company is now providing more details. The shown Mech card with red accents turns out to be a placeholder. That is an RX 500 video card and not a new Navi model. MSI now shows an image that shows what the Mech version of the RX 5700 and RX 5700XT will look like.

Furthermore, MSI clarifies that there will be four versions of both the RX 5700 and the RX 5700XT. There will be cards under the name Gaming X, Evoke, Mech and Air Boost. MSI now says that the custom cards will probably not be released until the end of August and that the most extensive model, the Gaming X, will probably have to wait until September. The Air Boost version with blower cooler will be released later. MSI says nothing about the Evoke models yet, but the manufacturer confirms that it is a new series.
AMD said earlier this month that RX 5700 graphics cards with a modified design will be released in mid-August. Now it is clear that the variants of MSI will not come until the end of August. It is not known how this is with other manufacturers.
MSI provides more details about its custom RX 5700 cards in stream. Video starts at the relevant segment.
