ASRock and Gigabyte Release Fanless Boards with Intel Gemini Lake Chips
ASRock has announced two motherboards that have the Intel Celeron J4105 CPU on board. In addition, Gigabyte has also announced a motherboard based on the Gemini Lake platform. The processor is passively cooled.
ASRock releases the J4105-ITX with mini-itx form factor. This board has two ddr4 sodimm slots, vga, dvi and hdmi. There are also four SATA600 connections, there is a PCI-e 2.0 x1 and an M2 slot and there are four USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports. There will also be a B variant of the motherboard, the J4105B-ITX, which has PCI-e 2.0 x16, but lacks DVI and an M2 slot and which also only has two SATA600 interfaces. Both boards have an Intel Celeron J4105 quad-core clocked up to 2.5GHz.
Gigabyte introduces the J4005N D2P, including two sata600 ports, pci-e 2.0 x16, an m2 slot and hdmi 2.0. This motherboard is built around the Celeron J4005, a dual-core SOC with a clock speed of up to 2.7GHz.
The Celeron J4105 and J4005 are socs for budget desktop systems that support ddr4-2400 and include the Intel UHD Graphics 600. This Gen9 GPU contains 12 execution units and operates at 700MHz. The GPU is not powerful enough to run modern games smoothly, but it can display 4k images. Gemini Lake is based on the Atom architecture, but compared to Apollo Lake, the Goldmont cores have been improved and there is 4MB instead of 2MB cache.
