ASML delivered seven euv machines to customers last quarter
ASML has had a good third quarter. The Veldhoven chip machine maker delivered a total of seven euv machines to various customers in the previous three months and has received orders to supply many more.
Commenting on its quarterly results, ASML says it is making solid progress with euv. Of the seven euv machines delivered in the past quarter, three were of the NXE:3400C type, which should be able to handle 170 wafers per hour. In addition, ASML received 23 orders for the delivery of EUV machines during the previous quarter, a quarterly record. According to the manufacturer, this shows that EUV is used for the production of high-volume chips.
Turnover in the past three months amounted to almost 3 billion euros, while in the second quarter of this year it remained at 2.5 billion euros. Profit amounted to 627 million euros, compared to 476 million euros in the second quarter of 2019. In the third quarter, orders were received for a total of 5.11 billion euros and 52 lithography systems were sold.
ASML expects sales for the current fourth quarter to amount to 3.9 billion euros, bringing total sales for the whole of 2019 to 11.7 billion euros. Furthermore, ASML expects to achieve a profit margin of between 48 and 49 percent in the coming period.
The company is still a little cringe-inducing by pointing to the uncertainty about the timing of the recovery of the memory chip market. ASML in any case expects strong growth in processors, which, according to the chip machine manufacturer, will be partly driven by new technology, 5G applications and artificial intelligence.
