ASML CEO: China has no alternative to mass-producing chips with EUV
The technology that Chinese chip manufacturer SMIC has pinned its hopes on to make 5nm chips is still a long way from large-scale production. That says ASML CEO Peter Wennink in an interview.
In the conversation following the publication of ASML’s annual figures, Wennink indicated that China has no alternatives to ASML’s EUV machines for the time being if the country wants to make chips on 7nm nodes or smaller. China has to make do with the machines for immersion lithography, which ASML can continue to supply. Wennink: “10nm is also very advanced.”
