Asetek has won a patent lawsuit from CMI, part of Cooler Master. The California District Court finds that CMI infringed Asetek’s patents for water cooling technology and imposed damages and a sales ban.

The Court of Appeal thus confirms an earlier ruling at the end of 2014 and also imposes heavier claims. CMI must pay damages of 25.375 percent on the sales generated as of January 1, 2015 from the products that infringe Asetek’s patents. In the previous ruling, this was still 14.5 percent. In addition, a sales ban has been imposed in the US for those products.

The District Court has rejected CMI’s claims. The case was brought in 2013 and concerns infringement of patents 8245764 and 8240362 in the United States. They describe technology for a maintenance-free system, which includes a pump and a radiator. Specifically, Cooler Masters all-in-one water coolers in the Seidon line would infringe on Asetek’s patents. CMI USA Inc. is the American subsidiary of Cooler Master. The company can appeal the verdict.
