Artist creates detailed work using only HTML and CSS

Artist Diana Smith has dedicated herself to creating work using only css and html. For example, a sort of eighteenth-century painting of a woman called Pure CSS Francine. A nice touch is that it looks different in different browsers.

Smith tells Motherboard that it takes her about two weeks to see each work that is available on GitHub. On the Pure CSS Francine page, she explains the rules she has imposed on herself. For example, all elements must be hand-typed, can only use the Atom text editor and Chrome Developer Tools, and restricts the use of svgs.

Using only css and html, her creations look different in different browsers. She tells Motherboard, “Viewing the images in different browsers is a way of looking back at the history of the Internet and what was expected of it over time.” The online community has also found out in recent days that the results differ per browser.
