Article with first impressions iPhone X from reviewer original iPhone comes online

An article with first impressions of the iPhone X in everyday life has come online. Reviewer Steven Levy, who was one of the first to review the iPhone 2g in 2007, has used the device for a week and has published his findings.

Levy, who has posted his findings on Wired’s site, says it took a while to get used to the iPhone without a home button and Touch ID. He claims that Face ID works well, provided he imagines each time he’s reenacting the Robert de Niro movie scene in Taxi Driver and ‘you talking to me?’ says to the iPhone X. When it didn’t, the device didn’t detect eye contact and remained locked.

The gestures in the operation of the interface proved to be quick to get used to and Levy claims that he now also swipes up on an iPad to close apps. While Levy’s first impressions are based on everyday life experiences with the device, the story doesn’t include photos, screenshots, benchmarks, and tests. Presumably, that information is still under embargo.

However, there are YouTubers who have been able to play extensively with the iPhone X at an Apple event in New York. BooredAtWork and Soldier Knows Best, among others, have posted extensive impressions of that event, including Face ID. Those videos show, among other things, that the software requires the user to turn their head twice in the setup of the unlock method. Apple will release the iPhone X next Friday.
