Arlo will stop offering free image storage for various cameras next year
Arlo is discontinuing the free cloud storage feature for a number of products. Users of certain cameras and doorbells can view images for free for seven days, but that policy will change for many products in a year.
Arlo has the terms of use updated for all its products. It lists new end-of-life dates for certain products. This concerns eight different cameras and doorbells, the oldest of which was released in November 2014. Arlo says those devices will be end-of-life starting January 1, 2024. For two products, the Gen 3 and Pro cameras, this will happen on April 1 of this year. When a device reaches end-of-life status, several functions disappear. The devices will no longer receive new firmware updates. E-mail notifications cannot be sent either.
The most notable change, however, is that the free cloud storage feature is disappearing. Arlo users could also view seven days of images without a paid subscription. They were stored at Arlo’s. Arlo always advertised that feature prominently on packaging and in marketing materials. From January 1, 2024, users will have to pay to view footage or use an Arlo Base Station to save recordings locally.
