Studio Wildcard has postponed Ark 2, the sequel to the popular online survival game, until 2024. The studio has also announced that it is working on an Unreal Engine 5 remaster of the original, which should be released in August.

Studio Wildcard say Ark 2 because it wants to take full advantage of the new Unreal Engine 5. The developer previously announced that the game would be released ‘no later than June 2023’. In addition to the fact that the game will not be released until 2024, no screenshots or videos of the game will be shown until then. The studio promises that the sequel will feature a few “significant design changes,” including “Souls-style combat,” “merely primitive weapons” and “strict third-person mechanics.”

Because Studio Wildcard believes that Ark 2 ‘may not be as attractive to everyone’ as the first part due to these changes, the developer is also working on a remaster of the original. The next-gen version, called Ark: Survival Ascended, will receive an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, cross-platform multiplayer and mods on the console versions, the studio promises.

The remaster should be released at the end of August for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X and PC. The official online servers of the original will also be taken down around that date, says Studio Wildcard. It is still possible to play the game offline, or on players’ servers. On Xbox consoles and PC, the Unreal Engine 5 remaster is not available separately, but only in a bundle with Ark 2 for $50. The PS5 version is available separately for $40. Ark 2 will only be released for the PC and Xbox consoles, and not for the PlayStation 5.
