Arduino has announced two new boards, including its first one that is built on the basis of an fpga, more precisely an Intel Cyclone 10. In addition, the company comes with a revised variant of the Uno Wifi.

According to Arduino’s announcement, the company is targeting internet-of-things applications with its fpga board, which goes by the name MKR Vidor 4000. Because it is provided with a reprogrammable chip, it must be flexible to use. In an interview with Electromaker, Arduino CEO Fabio Violante explains that even users with little or no knowledge should be able to use the fpga because they can provide it with predefined configurations. Later this year, a visual editor should also be released in the so-called Create environment.

In addition to the fgpa, there is a Sam D21 chip on the board based on an Arm Cortex-M0+ processor, in addition to a WiFi and Bluetooth module in the form of a Nina-W102 from u-blox and a cryptographic chip. The new Uno variant, called the Uno Wifi Rev 2, is based on an ATmega4809 microcontroller with the same WiFi module as the Vidor 4000 and also a cryptographic chip. In addition, the board is equipped with an inertial measurement unit.

Arduino has not yet announced prices of the new additions, which should be available by the end of June.
