The Arctic Freezer 50 TR cooler’s packaging hints at the arrival of a Threadripper processor with 64 cores. According to the packaging, the cooler is suitable for processors with 32 and 64 cores. The cooler will be on the market ‘beginning of November’.

The Arctic Freezer 50 TR was officially announced this week. Specifically for Threadripper CPUs, the cooler features a twin-tower design with two fans. Shortly after the cooler’s announcement, photos of the packaging appeared on Arctic’s website, stating that the Freezer 50 TR is capable of cooling CPUs with 32 and 64 cores. With this, the cooler seems to indicate the arrival of a CPU with 64 cores in the Threadripper series. The cooler appears to be specifically intended for hedt processors, so it seems unlikely that this refers to an Epyc CPU.

Recently, indications also emerged that the 24-core Threadripper variant will be called the 3960X, VideoCardz writes. For example, a benchmark run of Ashes of the Singularity appeared that mentions the 3960X. If this proves to be true, and AMD keeps its current naming scheme, it may also indicate the arrival of a 64-core CPU; a 3970X would then have 32 cores, a 3980X might have 48 cores, and a possible 3990(W)X might have 64 cores.

Also shared @Komachi_Ensaka on Twitter information from a Ryzen Master update, showing that the third-generation Threadripper chips will get a tdp of 280W. This seems to be a variant with 32 cores. It is striking that the Arctic Freezer cooler mentions a tdp of 250W.

German tech site Hardwareluxx posted a review of the Arctic Freezer 50 TR this week, but for this the site used a 2970WX with 24 cores. In the review, the performance of the cooler is comparable to that of the Noctua NH-U14S TR4. The Arctic Freezer 50 TR should cost 60 euros.
