Approval agency publishes photos of the foldable version of Google Glass business
The US regulatory agency FCC has published photos of a Google device that will be the next version of Glass. The ar glasses are foldable in the new version and have the Power button on the back of the device.
It looks like Google will announce the glasses later than it originally planned. The FCC already approved the new version of Glass this summer, and then Google asked the agency to keep the photos secret for six months, among other things. That period has now expired and the FCC has posted the photos as agreed, 9to5Google mocked.
The photos show a device that looks a lot like the previous Explorer edition of Google Glass, but the case now folds like regular glasses. Hardware-wise, the test shows that the Glass supports WiFi-ac and can therefore also make contact with WiFi networks at 5GHz, something that is impossible with the Explorer edition. Five pins are visible for charging, whereby the charger is presumably held in place with magnets.
The glasses would be an Enterprise Edition, which is only intended for applications at companies. It is unknown what those applications are, but it is conceivable that the glasses will come in handy in professions where people need to be able to see incoming messages without being able to use their hands. The Explorer edition was used, among other things, to stream hospital operations and thus be able to watch the doctor without having to hold a camera in hand.
According to previous rumors, the business variant of the glasses will receive an Intel Atom soc. It is unknown when Google will present the glasses for the business market. The glasses have the type number GG1. Google released the Explorer edition of Google in 2012 and stopped selling it some time ago.
