Approval agency confirms support for 33W fast charging on Google Pixel 6 Pro
The upcoming Google Pixel 6 Pro smartphone will receive support for 33W fast charging. This is evident from information from Taiwanese inspection body NCC. Previous Pixel smartphones supported fast charging with a power of up to 18W.
Information about the Pixel 6 Pro recently appeared at the NCC and was the first to be noticed by XDA Developers. While much of the data about the upcoming smartphone has been shielded from the regulatory body, a label has emerged stating supported charging speeds. The Pixel 6 Pro would support a maximum charging speed of converted 33W via USB-PD with a programmable power supply. The Pixel 6 Pro is also said to support 15W, 18W and 27W charging. It is not known whether this also applies to the regular Pixel 6.
Previously, there were rumors that the Pixel 6 series would support 33W fast charging, including the regular Pixel 6. 91Mobiles reported in August that the upcoming smartphones would offer such support. The website also stated that sources encountered 33W chargers at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. All previous Pixel devices supported up to 18W fast charging, including the original Pixel and Pixel XL from 2016.

Google will not supply the 33W charger with the Pixel 6 series. The company previously told The Verge that it will not ship a charger with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Users will therefore have to purchase a separate 33W fast charger to charge the phone with this power. Google did provide a charger with previous Pixel devices. It told The Verge that “most people already have a USB-C charger,” so there’s no need to ship one with it. Other major smartphone companies, including Apple and Samsung, also no longer supply chargers with their high-end devices and gave a similar reason.
Last month, Google shared the first details about the upcoming Pixel 6 series, which will include a self-designed Tensor soc. The phone will be released this fall and comes with Android 12. It is not yet known when Google will announce or release the smartphones. Earlier rumors state that the devices will appear in stores at the end of October. Recently, possible specifications of the Google Tensor chip came online.
