Apple’s Watch and AirPods Division Sales Outperform Mac
Apple generated more revenue from its Apple Watch and AirPods division in the last quarter of 2019 than from Mac sales. iPhone sales rose sharply, which fell from the Mac and iPad.
There are now more than 1.5 billion Apple products active, CEO Tim Cook announced during the publication of the quarterly figures. The amount of delivered devices per category is no longer disclosed by Apple, but the turnover from the various divisions is. It shows that “Wearables, Home & Accessories” revenue was $10 billion, surpassing the revenue from Mac shipments of $7.16 billion. Apple includes the Watch, HomePod and AirPods under ‘Wearables, Home & Accessories’. Cook told Reuters that Apple was unable to produce enough Apple Watch Series 3 smartwatches and AirPods to meet demand in the fourth quarter of 2019.
Apple’s iPhone sales rose 7.6 percent to $56 billion. That was the second best quarter for the iPhone in terms of sales to date. Only two years ago, also in the fourth quarter, sales from iPhones were higher. Service revenues also rose sharply, by 17 percent to $12.7 billion. Things went less well with the Mac and the iPad; those sales fell by 3 and 11 percent respectively. Total revenue for the fourth quarter of 2019, which is the first fiscal quarter of 2020 in Apple’s fiscal year, rose 9 percent to $91.9 billion.
