Apple shipped slightly fewer iPhones in the first quarter of this year than in the same quarter a year earlier. Turnover and profit did increase, as did the average price per device sold.

Apple shipped 50.8 million iPhones in the first three months of this year. In the same period last year, there were 51.2 million. In its quarterly figures, Apple notes a turnover of 52.9 billion dollars and a profit of 11 billion dollars, converted about 10 billion euros. Last year, comparable quarter sales were $50.6 billion and profits were $10.5 billion.

The increase in sales is partly due to the average price per iPhone, which came in at $655 per unit. Converted that is about 599 euros. Last year, the average price in the same period was still about $642.

The number of iPads delivered fell by 13.6 percent compared to a year earlier. Apple shipped 8.9 million units in the quarter. This also includes the first week of sales for the 2017 model of the iPad, which came out at the end of March and the figures are for deliveries until April 1.

Macs deliveries are improving. Apple recorded an increase of 5 percent with 4.2 million copies delivered. Desktop and laptop sales were up 14 percent, indicating a higher average price per product delivered.

Apple once again saw strong growth in service revenue. Revenue came in at $7 billion, compared to $6 billion in the same quarter last year. In the previous two quarters, Apple also saw significant increases of 18 and 24 percent in service revenues. This includes income from sales of apps and Apple Music.

Revenue from the ‘other’ category rose to $2.9 billion. Last year it was $2.2 billion. This segment includes Apple’s Watch, Apple TV and accessories revenue.
