Apple will not remove Amphetamine app from Mac App Store after all toch
Apple is not going to remove the app Amphetamine from the Mac App Store after all. The manufacturer wanted to do that because the app with the name and logo would promote the use of amphetamines. Apple has backtracked on that.
The developer says via GitHub that Apple sees the use of the name and logo as a metaphor and that they are used in medical ways. Then according to the manufacturer it is possible. Last week, the developer announced that Apple wanted to remove the app from the Mac App Store because of the name and logo.
The Amphetamine app allows users to keep their laptop or desktop awake, while according to the system settings it would actually go to sleep. The app has been on the Mac App Store for six years and has had hundreds of thousands of downloads in that time.
Apple invoked rule 1.4.3 of the App Store Rules. It states that apps should not promote things like drugs and smoking. It is unknown why Apple suddenly contacted the developer about this after six years.
