Apple has unveiled a new Pencil stylus for use with its iPad tablets. This Pencil is cheaper than the previous models and has USB-C. The Pencil lacks the pressure sensitivity and wireless charging of the second generation Pencil.

The cheaper Pencil is the first Pencil stylus with USB-C and, like the other Pencil styluses, can measure the tilt for shading effects, for example, but lacks the pressure sensor to make stripes thicker or thinner, for example. The new Pencil can be attached magnetically to iPads, but cannot be connected and charged wirelessly like the second generation Pencil. The USB-C connection is required for pairing and charging.

Users also cannot tap the stylus twice to select a different function, which is possible with the second generation Pencil. The USB-C Pencil costs 95 euros and is available from November. The stylus can work with all iPads with a USB-C connection.
