‘Apple wants to have more iPhones produced in India’
Apple wants to have more iPhones produced in India in percentage terms in the near future. That’s why a Foxconn factory in India has already started producing iPhone 15 models. Deliveries should begin a few weeks after the phone’s release.
Moving more of iPhone production to India should reduce risk for Apple, Bloomberg writes. Therefore, mass production of iPhone 15 models has already started in the Indian city of Sriperumbudur. The ‘Indian’ models should appear on the market a few weeks after the ones from China.
One of the difficulties of manufacturing in India is the supply of parts. Many suppliers are in China, so Apple has to import the parts to India for assembly. When manufacturing in China, the factory is closer to that of the suppliers, which makes the process faster. It has been clear for some time that Apple is moving part of the production of its products to India and Thailand. Currently, 7 percent of iPhones made worldwide already come from India.
